The Pacifist Gallery Project
at Casa Ridgway
Thank you for your interest in our Pacifist Gallery Project at Casa
Ridgway. This is an important branch of the Peace
Center's larger scale Pacifista Gallery Project.
The project at Casa Ridgway is an endeavor to simultaneously improve
the quality of our hostel rooms and further integrate Casa Ridgway
into the mission of the Center. Currently, our rooms at Casa Ridgway
are basic—containing a bed, four walls, a roof and in some cases
a few other amenities such as a desk and chair. Well, we have plans
to change all that. We are going to dedicate each and every room at
Casa Ridgway to a pacifist (a peacemaker). Imagine coming here and
finding your room dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a framed
picture of him and a quote from his “I have a Dream Speech”
on the wall.
Visualize waking up to a painting of children of all different races
holding hands in peace on the wall right in front of your bed. Envision
a short biography outlining the importance of Dr. King’s accomplishments
on a bedside table with a new lamp under which to read it. Now imagine
a similar room for Gandhi, Albert Einstein (yes, he was much more
than a scientist), Mother Teresa, George Fox, Archbishop Romero and
many others.
The Pacifist Gallery Project at Casa Ridgway is one of the ways we
at the Peace Center want to help promote understanding and peace in
the world. The purpose of Casa Ridgway is not only to provide you
with a safe, affordable, and friendly place to stay, but also to help
promote the workshops, conferences and written material of the Peace
Center in our effort as a source of information on peace. It is with
these efforts in mind that we wish to more deeply integrate Casa Ridgway
into the mission of our Center.
