Our Programs, Events and Projects
On this page you will find information on our current programs.
We began the year participating in the different activities related
to the World Season for Peace and Non Violence whose objective is to
recall the lives and examples of different spiritual leaders who dedicated
their lives to the cause of Justice and Peace, honoring the memory of
Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King.
From April on, we opened our II Paint Workshop for children, “Children
and Peace”: five Saturdays with the participation of boys and
girls between 6 and 12 years. Dona Mirna of Casa Ridgway is the teacher
and our very own artist.
Worried by the possibilities of conflict and violence which may result
from the manifestations against the Central American Free Trade Treaty
with the United States, (CAFTA), we have initiated a cycle of workshops
on non violence and active civil disobedience. We also formed an internal
study group to analyze the contents of the treaty with the purpose of
strengthening our opinion and channeling our position to the U.S. Congress.
In August, we will begin our seminar series with a cycle of Saturdays
commemorating the life of Archbishop Romero, remembering his involvement
with the cause of justice and human rights in El Salvador.
Our Pacifist Gallery project continues to bloom: our goal is to design
a walkway in San José leading to our meeting room where the portraits
of men and women who have dedicated their lives to the cause of peace
are on exhibition and place these efforts in the current world state
of affairs.
Finally, in response to the desire of participants in our workshops
relating to migrant concerns, we are following up on the workshops we
initiated in 2004, sharing information relating to migrant rights relating
to work, housing, health and other concerns, mainly for Nicaraguans
and Costa Ricans who work with migrant population.
